Quarter 3:

Animoto of "Brave New World.":

Ethics in "Brave New World":

Within "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, we see a futuristic view of London from Huxley's mind. He sees the world of the future being very predictable, a time of babies hatching with set futures, drug induced happiness, and predetermined, and unchangeable social class. Huxley's view of the world of the future seems to be a utopia with a lot of limitations, meaning that the extent to which each person lives, and can live, is very limited. The 3 ethical issues that are most seen in the book, are the way people are created, social class structure, and drug- induced emotions.  Today as always, children are born from sexual reproduction, which I will not go in depth with. In "Brave New world," babies are now born from hatcheries, where their future is already decided for them. In terms of ethics, this is a big issue, ethics is defined as "moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity." Children being artificially made, is against all moral principles.

Everyone remembers that summer of love, in the 60's when everyone was perked up on LSD, Marijuana, and every other drug existent to man kind. Well, in "Brave New World," there is a drug called soma, and its main purpose is to upkeep the happiness of society, because in that period of time, all forms of sadness is frowned upon. In our modern day society, all though the use of drugs has become more of a norm, using drugs for anything but medical reasons is still looked down upon, ethically using drugs for happiness is against our moral principles.

Another ethical issue in the book is everyone having a predetermined, and unchangeable future based on the social classing system. A common belief all people share in this society, is that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Where the ethical issue arises, is that there is no life, liberty or pursuit of happiness in this novel , everyone is given genetics based on where they will fit into society, whether they are an alpha, beta, gamma, etc. When you remove such a fundamental right from everyone in a society, that is where ethical issues will arise.

Quarter 3 Argument Timed Write:

SEMINAR TIMELINE:

 COMING SOON!

REFLECTION:

Quarter 3 has by far, been the hardest quarter of the year, it was long, unbroken (No breaks at all), and stressful with the enormous work load that was placed on me from both AP Lang, and from my other 7 classes, electives included. In terms of what I learned this quarter, I learned that you have to make sacrifices in order to get a sufficient education, this whole quarter I was forced to stay home, and give up adventures with my friends, for adventures of my mind, every single night coming home with at least an hour of homework. I received an 81% for last quarter, and yes, I do believe that I earned that grade, because even though it was not that good of a grade, I did try hard, and what came out of it was an OK grade. At the peak of the quarter I was behind by about 5 assignments and through sheer will power I managed to complete about 3 of them before the quarter had ended. The most meaningful assignment from this quarter, in my eyes, was the argument timed write which is shown above. The reason I chose this assignment, is because it allowed me to gauge my current writing abilities, within the argumentative writing category.  What I am looking forward to in the 4th quarter, is an ease of work, and numerous breaks, what I am dreading is the AP test which I HAVE to take. My goal for 4th quarter is to get straight A's hereby giving me a 4.3 GPA.
